About FIBER

Establishment Philosophy

The Frontier Institute for Biomolecular Engineering Research (FIBER) was established in November 2003 as an institute for the innovative research and education reflecting the highest global standards in the field of biomolecular engineering. In April 2009, FIBER was renewed and moved to Port Island, which has greatly helped us to promote our research and educational activities for the purpose of exchanging both human resources and scientific fields, as well as for the general development of our region by collaborating with industrial, governmental, and academic institutes. FIBER has established its main research goal in the study of the "human", bundling four kinds of fields, life, health, environment, and materials, together, and was developed for the purpose of achieving scientific and social value.

We have promoted some research projects independently, including “Establishment of a chemical technique to regulate cell responses by targeting the non-canonical structures of nucleic acids and development of a technology for the pre-emptive therapeutics and engineering based on nucleic acids”, which was adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for their Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, as well as some other research projects in collaboration with foreign institutes through agreements for academic exchange and cooperation. We contribute the social actions of Konan University thanks to the great accomplishments of the director as well as the staff members and postdoctoral fellows at FIBER. Furthermore, we return our profits to valuable education action programs for all of Konan University. Furthermore, FIBER has established world-class researchers who can strengthen the relationships with both domestic and foreign researchers, and such collaborations are expected to create the International Academic Core Research Innovation in Konan University.
